Manufacturing Low Insertion Loss Fiber-Lens Elements

چکیده
Throughout the fiber optics industry, one is constantly hearing that without substantial improvements in production efficiency, new markets for fiber optic technology will remain elusive. It is therefore a common goal throughout the fiber optics industry to continually improve production processes. We propose a scalable improvement for a production step found in a wide range of fiber optic components, fiber-lens and fiber-array alignments.

Functional analysis of the Hsf4lop11 allele responsible for cataracts in lop11 mice
PURPOSE Lens opacity 11 (lop11) is a spontaneous autosomal recessive mouse mutation resulting in cataracts. Insertion of an early transposable element (ETn) in intron 9 of heat shock factor 4 (Hsf4) was previously identified as responsible for lop11 cataracts. Although molecular analysis showed that the ETn insertion resulted in an aberrant Hsf4 transcript encoding a truncated mutant HSF4(lop11...
متن کاملIn vitro synthesis and membrane insertion of bovine MP26, an integral protein from lens fiber plasma membrane
Synthesis of MP26, the principal protein of lens fiber plasma membranes, was directed in the reticulocyte lysate system by poly A mRNA enriched from whole bovine lens RNA using oligo (dt)-cellulose chromatography. Synthesized MP26 was enriched by immune precipitation. The in vitro-synthesized MP26 had an electrophoretic mobility indistinguishable from that of the native molecule. MP26 showed a ...
متن کاملLensless, ultra-wideband fiber optic rotary joint for biomedical applications.
The demands of optical fiber-based biomedical applications can, in many cases, outstrip the capabilities of lens-based commercially available fiber optic rotary joints. In some circumstances, it is necessary to use very broad spectral bandwidths (near UV to short-wave IR) and specialized optical fibers, such as double-clad fiber, and have the capacity to accommodate high rotational velocities. ...
متن کاملRealization of FDDI optical bypass switches using surface micromachining technology
We report a novel FDDI (fiber data distribution interface) optical bypass switch using the surface-micromachining technology. In this design, all of the switches' components are made of polysilicon films and are monolithically patterned. The switch consists of four multimode optical fibers and a two-sided mirror sitting vertically on the top of a sliding plate which can be driven by an integrat...

Modern microwave and millimeter wave phased array antennas are attractive because of their ability to steer wave beams in space without physically moving the antenna element. A typical phased array antenna may have several thousand elements fed by a phase shifter for every antenna, which can steer the resulting array beam to different directions. Their low loss, low cost and lightweight phase s...
